Emotional Development

emodevelopBy the nature of our students disabilities, generally our students’ emotional development lags behind their physical development. Milestones’ psychologists work with students to help develop their maturation level by teaching specific courses each week that practices executive functioning skills and having frank and explicit discussions about topics such as growing up with a diagnosis, disclosure of diagnosis, dating when you have a disability, etc. By having these conversations, the psychologist can help students process what they are feeling, practicing self-advocacy, perspective taking skills, and recommend coping strategies to work through their emotions.
