Milestones is a private day school dedicated to helping students discover their strengths and increase their self confidence. We offer a unique year-round academic program that incorporates both academic and therapeutic instruction in a state of the art building. Teachers have the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of multidisciplinary therapists and specialists. We have a low student to staff ratio and our population consists primarily of students with diagnoses on the Autism Spectrum, Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Anxiety Disorders.

**Active Massachusetts licensure in Physical Education (PreK-8 AND 5-12) is required**

Milestones offers students a unique and intensive year-round academic and therapy program. Teachers work collaboratively with our clinical staff allowing multidisciplinary teams that consist of Teachers, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Reading and Math Specialists, BCBA, Principal and Directors. We have a low student to staff ratio and a teacher assistant to support teaching in each classroom.

We are currently recruiting for a Physical Education Teacher to join our team.

Job Summary:

Providing physical education & health education for students to increase motor coordination, general game skills, and health awareness in order to create a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Write lesson plans and lead activities that correlate to Mass Frameworks across grade levels for P.E. and Health classes
  • Develop and conduct class instruction with integration of Milestones’ therapeutic practices & methodology
  • Maintain solid understanding of accommodations and adaptations for activities and instruction in order to best support student needs and abilities (physical, social emotional, neuro-diversity, learning challenges, processing challenges, sensory processing needs, etc.)
  • Check and maintain (or call for maintenance) all sports related equipment
  • Collaborate on progress reports for students with gross motor concerns
  • Work collaboratively with Occupational Therapy staff to increase competence with motor skills
  • Administer and coordinate yearly Presidential Fitness Challenge
  • Help students set fitness goals and monitor over the year to help support maintenance of these goals
  • Coordinate annual Field Day for students
  • Participate in offsite fitness programming, as appropriate (e.g. YMCA)
  • Maintain grade book within ALMA system and write report cards quarterly
  • Support staff & students within classrooms during open blocks
  • Helping students with non-academic activities such as facilitating social interactions, helping kids take sensory breaks, etc.
  • Working closely with the classroom assistant to ensure students’ needs are met
  • Stay up to date on health and physical education curriculum requirements and changes in the state of MA.

Our school is open year round Monday-Friday and teachers work 7:30am-3pm onsite (with a daily planning block). Summer hours are Monday-Friday with a Friday noon dismissal.


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Ed., Health and Physical Education or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • **Active Massachusetts licensure in Physical Education (PreK-8 AND 5-12) is required**
  • Special Education experience and autism related experience
  • Strong skills with collaboration and interest in hands-on instruction
