July 6, 2020
I hope you have had a great vacation period with your families. We are writing to confirm that our task force met this morning, and Milestones will begin our onsite instruction on Monday, July 20th. This means that all students will have 2 weeks of full remote instruction both this week and next week (the week of July 13th), and students who will be participating in the hybrid schedule of one designated onsite day per week will have their first onsite day of programming on their assigned day the week of July 20th. Students whose families have chosen not to participate onsite this summer will continue with full remote instruction. We will notify districts of this plan so that they can work with families to confirm transportation plans.
The MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) issued their final summer guidance of implementation criteria to all schools the day before the holiday observance on Thursday of last week (July 2nd), and this guidance is scheduled to be reviewed with special education schools by the Massachusetts Association of 766 Approved Private Schools (Maaps) tomorrow (July 7th). Based upon our diligent preparation and planning, Milestones is in excellent shape to transition to a safe reentry for staff and students! However, we believe it’s the most responsible decision to take the next two weeks to complete final staff training, protocols, and thoughtful processing with all students to ensure the smoothest start.
What Families Can Expect Soon: We will be providing all families with 3 pieces of upcoming information: (1) final guidance from our school nurse about health-related policies, (2) final reminders from our school principal about what students should bring to school onsite and general expectations, and (3) a set of forms that all parents will need to complete and return in order for your student to participate in onsite instruction. These forms will include a daily attestation health screener that parents/guardians will need to complete on every day your student is scheduled to be onsite to certify your student’s readiness to attend school onsite as well as specific one-time-only permission forms. These forms will be finalized later this week, and we will notify all families through an automated voice message when they are available. These forms will be provided to you electronically through a schoolwide email, and for your convenience, we will also post them to our website and send you paper-based copies by mail. Families will have the choice to complete these forms online or to send them with your student to turn in at Milestones.
We are looking forward to welcoming your students back, and our team will be readily available to answer any questions as we prepare for our onsite reentry and on an ongoing basis as well.
