Phase 3 Remote Learning Letter, Acceptable Use Policy, and May Reminders
May 3, 2020
I hope that you and your family members have enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend. Fresh air is especially important these days!
I would like to please call your attention to the new attached letter from our Principal (Kirsten Esposito Balboni) and Special Education Administrator (Gillian Warwick) that outlines timely information regarding Milestones’ remote learning in light of the Governor’s announcement of extended temporary school closures. The MA Department of Elementary and
Secondary Education (DESE) is referencing this period as “Phase III” of remote learning. We have also attached a copy of our school’s Acceptable Use Policy regarding technology, which is referenced in the attached Phase III letter.
In addition, we have several updates and reminders for the month of May.
- Wednesday, May 6th Half-Day: As a reminder, this Wednesday (5/6/20) is a scheduled half-day for students due to staff’s professional development training in the afternoon. Your student’s programming will end at 12:00pm on Wednesday.
- 2020-2021 Consent Forms To Be Sent to Families This Week: Each year, all Milestones parents/guardians complete annual consent forms for your student. We are required to have completed consent forms and physical/dental documentation on file for all students prior to the start of each school year. Later this week your family will receive this documentation by email through Docusign. We ask that one parent/guardian representative for each student please complete these forms by Friday, June 5th. If you have any related questions, please email Brittany Asselin (Executive Assistant) at: firstname.lastname@example.org, and she would be happy to provide assistance.
- Postponement of Spring PAG Meetings: DESE has confirmed that they do not expect schools to run parent advisory group meetings this spring while schools are providing remote learning. They understand and appreciate the very busy demands and priorities that both parents and schools are facing during the pandemic, and DESE was especially happy to hear that Milestones’ PAG had successfully run two meetings earlier this school year. Together with PAG leadership, we have made the decision to cancel the PAG meeting that was originally scheduled for Friday, May 29th. Milestones will instead plan to offer the parent trainings that were originally scheduled for the March and May meetings (on the topics of Executive Functioning and Dyslexia) at future PAG meetings in the next
school year once we are back onsite.
- Memorial Day School Schedule: In looking ahead to Memorial Day weekend, please note that Milestones will have a half-day (12:00pm end time) on Friday, May 22nd and will be closed on Monday, May 25th in observance of the holiday.
We look forward to connecting with the students in the week ahead!
